Burdett, New Brigden part of a milk moo-vement
12 Mar
For 20 years now, Burdett and New Brigden students have been in the moo-d for milk.
Burdett School and New Brigden School were both recognized by Alberta Milk recently for their 20 year participation in Club Moo, an initiative promoting milk programs in schools across the province.
The program, which began in 1985, recognizes schools that have reached the 10, 15, 20 and 25-year participation milestone in Club Moo.
A school milk program provides the opportunity for children to have fresh cold milk during the school lunch hour. Club Moo helps improve the school nutrition environment and will help your schools meet the Alberta Nutrition Guidelines for Children and Youth that was released in spring 2008.
Research has shown that children who consume milk at lunch are more likely to meet their daily calcium requirements. Alberta Milk helps schools by providing program materials, nutrition information, cool incentives and a toll-free helpline for the schools throughout the year. Club Moo makes drinking milk fun and helps develop lifelong habits of milk drinking.
